Role Model's Sally on SNL? It's Charli, Baby
"When it was announced that Role Model - stage name for one Tucker Harrison Pillsbury - would be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, one question stuck in fans' minds: who would be the SNL Sally? Additional questions popped up in non-fan minds. Questions like What's a Sally? Is Role Model just one guy, like Tame Impala? Why are his tattoos placed so evenly apart like a wall of flash? And so on."
"But was Charli addressing multiple quasi-feuds with the same appearance? Many pointed out she came on stage wearing a Max's Kansas City shirt. Was this a post-" Actually Romantic" Taylor Swift dig? Like "You're Kansas City, I'm Max's Kansas City," aligning herself with the famous hangout of Andy Warhol and birthplace of punk, where reportedly the only thing remotely edible was the fried chickpea appetizer?"
When Role Model was announced as the Saturday Night Live musical guest, fans asked who would play the SNL Sally and questioned Role Model's solo status. On October 11 Charli XCX appeared as Saturday Night's Sally. The appearance effectively squashed faux beef after a bitter custody dispute between Role Model and Charli XCX over Conan Gray and Troye Sivan, who had both been Sally and the Apple Girl. Many observers noted Charli wore a Max's Kansas City shirt on stage, prompting speculation about a Taylor Swift reference. Charli wore the same shirt Role Model had used in promos earlier that week. Charli has been known to use t-shirts as messaging.
