Oliver Power Grant, a pivotal figure in Wu-Tang Clan's success, passed away at age 52. Born in Jamaica in 1973 and raised in Staten Island's Park Hill projects, Grant met the Wu-Tang members and earned his nickname through chess. He secured funding for their debut single Protect Ya Neck and executive produced Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. Grant founded Wu Wear, the collective's clothing line, which expanded to department stores and four retail locations, generating $25 million annually at peak. He also produced the 1999 PlayStation fighting game Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style. Wu-Tang members including Method Man, GZA, and Raekwon paid tribute to Grant's instrumental role in the group's formation and cultural impact.
