Seán Ó Sé was an iconic figure in Irish education, culture and traditional music with an extraordinary impact on Irish music and song. He became widely known for his remarkable version of 'An Poc ar Buile', which became a hit in 1962. He served as an outstanding school principal and educator and maintained a close friendship with Seán Ó Riada, becoming the definitive interpreter of Ó Riada's music. He often brought sporting celebrations to a rousing close with 'The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee'. He was a native of Ballylickey, Cork, predeceased by his wife Eileen and survived by three children, Áine, Con and Íde; he would have been 90.
