Ratboys Announce 2026 North American Tour, Unveil New Single "Light Night Mountains All That"
"Having recently signed with New West Records, Ratboys have wasted little time by unveiling "Light Night Mountains All That," their first new single in some two years. Co-produced by Chris Walla (who also plays piano on the track), the single is "driven by an unorthodox time structure, exhilarating instrumentation, and the flare of extraterrestrial guitar bloops," according to a press release."
""This song really took shape during our initial writing session up at the Driftless Cabin in Wisconsin last March; the guys and I nearly went insane fleshing out the arrangement and its odd timings together," Steiner said. "I wrote the lyrics during that original demoing trip, centered around the idea of a fantastic, rural vision-quest where the days and nights blend together and nothing is quite as it seems.""
Ratboys signed with New West Records and released "Light Night Mountains All That," their first single in about two years. The track was co-produced by Chris Walla, who also plays piano, and features unorthodox time structures, exhilarating instrumentation, and extraterrestrial guitar sounds. Julia Steiner drew inspiration from ultra-high-energy folk in the style of The Dodos' Visiter, aiming for spooky, mysterious, pastoral lyrics and surreal vision-quest imagery. The song developed during an intense writing session at the Driftless Cabin in Wisconsin where the band worked through odd timings and arrangement challenges. A Nuccio-directed video was shot on a sprawling Central Illinois farm.
