Radio City Music Hall Launching Sphere's 3D Audio System with Christmas Spectacular
"Already in use at the Las Vegas Sphere and New York's Beacon Theatre, Sphere Immersive Sound uses 3D audio "beamforming" and wave field synthesis technology to deliver consistent audio levels to wherever an audience member is seated. Consisting of more than 7,000 individually amplified loudspeaker drivers, the system gives artists and engineers the ability to "spatialize" audio, sending different sounds to distinct points in a theater. Following the Christmas Spectacular, Sphere Immersive Sound will roll out to all concerts and events at Radio City."
""With Sphere Immersive Sound's debut at the Beacon Theatre and the opening of Sphere in Las Vegas, we're continuing to expand this technology across the MSG Family of Companies' portfolio of venues, and we look forward to sharing this new system with audiences at Radio City Music Hall," said Josephine Vaccarello, Executive Vice President, Live for MSG Entertainment."
Radio City Music Hall will install Sphere Immersive Sound in early November, debuting the system for the Rockettes' 2025 Christmas Spectacular. Sphere Immersive Sound employs 3D audio beamforming and wave field synthesis to deliver consistent audio levels to every seat and to spatialize audio, sending distinct sounds to different points in the theater. The system uses more than 7,000 individually amplified loudspeaker drivers and is already implemented at the Las Vegas Sphere and New York's Beacon Theatre. After the Christmas Spectacular, Sphere Immersive Sound will be used for all concerts and events at Radio City Music Hall.
