Questlove Teases Posthumous D'Angelo Album Coming "Soon"
""You'll see soon," Questlove responded with a wide smile. "With him, it's always the sound of yesterday, but for the future. This record is no different. When it comes out, you'll know.""

Questlove teased an imminent posthumous album from late neo-soul pioneer D'Angelo during a red carpet interview at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Questlove said, "You'll see soon," and described D'Angelo's aesthetic as "the sound of yesterday, but for the future," noting the upcoming record continues that approach. Questlove and D'Angelo forged a close collaborative relationship during Brown Sugar, with Questlove serving as co-pilot and drawing on influences such as Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Al Green, George Clinton, and Soul Train. Questlove contributed drums and programming to several tracks on Black Messiah. D'Angelo reemerged publicly in 2021 with collaborators reporting work on new material, canceled a Roots Picnic headlining appearance due to health issues, and died last month after a private battle with pancreatic cancer.
