"In addition to revealing the full Alive in the Catacombs project, Queens of the Stone Age have shared Alive in Paris and Before, a companion documentary diving into the context surrounding their Catacombs set, Homme's battle with illness, and how the band and the camera crew captured the performance."
"He also dove deep into the philosophy behind the performance, why the Catacombs felt like a "dominating" space to create art in, his illness and recovery, and why he wants to create music that will have a lasting, almost permanent effect on his audience: "I know other people use their brand for Vitamin Water and whatever the fuck they're making. But I wanna burn you with mine. My brand is scarification," Homme said."
Alive in the Catacombs was filmed in July 2024 and is now streaming on YouTube. The performance presents intimate, haunting reimagined versions of Queens of the Stone Age songs recorded deep within the Catacombs of Paris. The concert was staged at the end of a long tour and occurred mere hours before frontman Josh Homme flew to the US for emergency life-saving surgery, lending a vulnerable, meditative tone as the band performed among skulls and bones. A companion documentary, Alive in Paris and Before, examines the set's context, Homme's illness, and the production, and the band supported the project with a pared-down Catacombs Tour across the US and Canada.
