Portugal. The Man Announce New Album SHISH, Share "Tanana" and "Mush"
"'Mush' is survival, connection, and ambition. Rural life with moments of danger and absurdity, like dirt bikes, smokers, gunfire, and video games," explained singer John Gourley in a press statement. "The repeated line 'we can be family' pushes against isolation, reaching for something solid. This is a repeating theme on the record - build a life, support your people, buy land, and grow something lasting. The message is simple: don't give up, want more, and fight for it. Meanwhile, 'Tanana' voices a generational sadness, searching for fleeting meaning in a world on edge."
"In celebration of SHISH, the group is set to embark on a previously announced 2025 North American tour, which officially begins with a two-night stand on November 6th and 7th in Portland, Oregon. The run of shows includes stops in Los Angeles, Denver, Minneapolis, Detroit, Boston, Atlanta and more before winding up in Austin, TX, on December 12th. Portugal. The Man will precede the tour with an appearance at the Harvest Music Festival in Fredericton, NB, Canada, on September 13th."
SHISH is scheduled for release on November 7 via KNIK/Thirty Tigers, accompanied by the singles "Tanana" and "Mush." "Mush" emphasizes survival, connection, ambition, and rural moments of danger and absurdity while the recurring line "we can be family" resists isolation. "Tanana" conveys generational sadness and a search for fleeting meaning. SHISH is the band's tenth studio album and follows the surprise EP uLu Selects Vol #2 and 2023's Chris Black Changed My Life. The band will tour North America beginning November 6–7 in Portland, perform at the Harvest Music Festival on September 13, and commence European/UK dates February 23, 2026 in Dublin.
