"The album, Portrayal of Guilt's fifth, continues their exploration of the experimental fringes of black metal and screamo. This time, they incorporate elements of nu-metal, alternative rock, trip hop and dark ambient into their soundscape. The band has always been known for their gleeful experimentation, a fact that is unabated here."
"One of the two singles, "Ecstasy," showcases a hip-hop drum beat against a bass and guitar riff that wouldn't be out of place on an early Korn album, overlaid with fierce and throaty black metal vocals. It builds in intensity before reaching a near-breakbeat climax."
"The other single, "Human Terror," similarly wields the avant-garde guitarism of early Korn, marrying it to a grimy industrial metal groove. The material on both singles isn't a far cry from legendary post-metal band Godflesh's late '90s work."
Portrayal of Guilt announced their fifth studio album ...Beginning of the End, arriving April 24th through Run for Cover Records.
