Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron leaves band after '27 fantastic years'

Matt Cameron announced on social media that he is leaving Pearl Jam after 27 years with the band. The San Diego native joined the group in 1998 and is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice: first with Pearl Jam in 2017 and again with Soundgarden on November 8. Cameron expressed gratitude towards his bandmates and highlighted the friendships and opportunities he experienced during his tenure. Pearl Jam's remaining members acknowledged Cameron's contributions and described him as a powerhouse musician who will be missed.
After 27 fantastic years, I have taken my final steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam. Cameron wrote. Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me into the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, filled with friendships, artistry, challenges and laughter.
From being one of our first musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and true powerhouse of a musician and drummer.
