Panda Bear & Sonic Boom Reveal New Collab Album
Noah Lennox’s Panda Bear releases A ? of When, a collaborative album with Pete Kember’s Sonic Boom. The follow-up to their 2022 LP includes contributions from Mary Lattimore and Daniel O'Sullivan. The album will be available on physical formats and download on July 10, with no streaming services included. A first single from the album is also available for download. Lennox and Kember frame the project as a shift away from connectivity-driven distraction, including AI-related references, and toward radio, live shows, listening parties, Q&A sessions, and in-person interactions. They ask listeners to join offline and outside social media, using “IRL not URL” as a guiding message.
"Going forward we're looking to radio, live shows, listening parties, Q&A sessions & real life interactions to get back to a place we feel makes more sense. To that end, we're asking you to join us offline, outside of social media. To meet us in the real world. IRL not URL..."
"Change. Exciting & frightening at the same time. The slow slips & the big shifts. Highs & lows from the distraction of connectivity.AI slop becomes an AI slope. Algorithm tables & algorithms tumble. We're taking things a little off piste.More rock n' roll than flick & scroll..."
"From here on in we're getting back to a place of real connectivity and as you might have noticed from our new "Graveyard"/"Lucky Charm" 7" (only available from record stores) there's no streaming, no videos, and a minimisation of online everything."
"Noah Lennox's Panda Bear is continuing this year's run of Animal Collective spinoff projects with the announcement of A ? of When, his latest collaborative effort with Pete Kember's Sonic Boom. The follow-up to their 2022 LP features contributions from Mary Lattimore and Daniel O'Sullivan."
