New Songs Out Today
"So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we'd call "indie," and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here's a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place."
"'For A Toy' is about self-destructive behaviour - but it's not clear what the toy or plaything or distraction is that keeps getting in the way of the path the protagonist wants to be on," says Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor of his new solo single. "'It's amusing to me that a song which shares a lyric with a powerful grunge track by Neil Young could sound this pretty."
New albums and singles arrive across genres, with Ratboys releasing the single 'Penny in the Lake' ahead of Singin' to an Empty Chair. Robyn issued an Arca remix of 'Sexistential,' praising Alejandra's vision and the conversations leading up to it. Alexis Taylor's solo single 'For A Toy' examines self-destructive behavior and ambiguous distractions, shares a lyric with a Neil Young grunge track, and features a chorus that explodes with sonic bombast. Elizabeth Wight contributes glacial, ghostly vocal tones and interjections that recall her operatic background. A weekly playlist curates current favorite tracks alongside daily news, premieres, and metal release coverage.
