New Rainbow Box Set Collects Studio and Live Material from 1975-1976 Era
"A new Rainbow box set titled The Temple of the King - 1975-1976 is set to arrive on March 6th via Edsel Records. The 9-CD collection houses studio and live material from the two years mentioned in its title, namely the 1975 debut Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and 1976 follow-up Rising, plus concert recordings from the tours supporting those albums. Audio has been newly mastered by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham."
"Discs 3 through 8 include three separate German concerts recorded in 1976 in Köln, Düsseldorf, and Nürnberg (the first time these three shows are being released together outside of Japan). The last half of Disc 8 and the entirety of Disc 9 comprise rare recordings, many of which are featured on CD for the first time, including band rehearsals, single edits, and rough mixes."
"A document of Rainbow's formative era, these recordings feature axeman and band mastermind Ritchie Blackmore alongside the late great Ronnie James Dio, who Blackmore had recruited from the band Elf at the time. By the time of the live shows featured in the box set, Blackmore had rounded out the group with bassist Jimmy Bain, keyboard player Tony Carey, and ex-Jeff Beck Group drummer Cozy Powell."
