""It's about dropping the mask of self-consciousness and vanity. It was a long journey for me to get out of my own way and I wanted this song to be a rallying cry for that, better late than never. You can be as much a victim of good luck as bad. So when we started out yes we were broke and we were playing to ten people and there was nothing for us to fall back on but we refused to give up, and it's not as though we're all superstar billionaires now, but that was never what we were after. It turns out the grind is the thing you wouldn't"
""I was a starving artist but I was fearless," she sings in the first verse, later channeling the song's momentum to vow "It's time to live my life now like it's never been done.""
Metric will release their tenth album Romanticize the Dive on April 24. The album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and produced by Gavin Brown with co-production from Liam O'Neil and guitarist Jimmy Shaw. Romanticize the Dive follows the two Formentera albums issued in 2022 and 2023. Lead single "Victim of Luck" channels a nostalgic 2000s indie sound with sparkling synths, descending melodies, and a dance-forward beat from drummer Joules Scott Key. Emily Haines revisits her early, fearless artist persona in the lyrics. A music video premieres at 12:00 p.m. EST and a 2026 North American tour with Broken Social Scene and Stars accompanies the release.
