"While mixing and editing the batch of tunes that became HORROR, we had a feeling they might have some sort of secret double life. So much potential, so many layers and forks in the road, so many split decisions that could've gone either way. Tony was the man to get his tools out and see what lurked beneath the hood and make it truly HORRORble."
"Benji Webbe the lead singer of UK Dancehall Metal legends Skindred is a resident of Pill, a village down by the docks in Newport, South Wales. 'Mudcrawlers' tells the story of Irish economic refugees crossing the sea to the mouth of the river Usk as ballast in the holds of cargo ships. Dumped on the steep muddy banks in the dead of night many died trying to crawl to safety."
Mekons have enlisted Pere Ubu's Tony Maimone to remix their album HORROR into a new project titled HORRORble (Mekons Vs. Tony Maimone In Dub Conference), releasing June 12 via Fire Records. The band recognized potential hidden layers within the original tracks and brought in Maimone to explore and transform the material. The lead single "Mudcrawlers ft. Benji Webbe" features Skindred's vocalist and tells the historical story of Irish economic refugees crossing the sea to Wales, dumped on muddy banks where many perished. Mekons will tour North America this summer, including appearances at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival and various US cities, with some dates featuring The Sadies.
