Lykke Li Releases "Knife in the Heart, A Self-Described "Brutalist Nursery Rhyme Anthem"
"This is my brutalist nursery rhyme anthem - the emo girl in me, fully unleashed. I had my son and his friend sing the choruses because the juxtaposition of their voices against the EBow just created such a powerful sonic landscape, somewhere I've never really been before."
"A world is totally collapsing in front of us, and all we really have left is our humanity. My dream is to hear a whole football stadium chanting: 'This Life, This Life is a Knife in the Heart.'"
Lykke Li has unveiled 'Knife in the Heart,' a new single from her upcoming album The Afterparty, recorded with a 17-piece string orchestra. The track explores themes of living in a troubled world where controversy and despair are inevitable. Li describes it as a 'brutalist nursery rhyme anthem' that unleashes her emotional side, featuring her son and his friend singing the choruses alongside EBow instrumentation to create a distinctive sonic landscape. The song emphasizes humanity as our remaining resource amid global collapse. 'Knife in the Heart' follows the February single 'Lucky Again' from The Afterparty, her first album in four years, releasing May 8th. Li will perform at various festivals including Coachella later this year.
