Lip Critic share chaotic new single 'Jackpot' and announce NYC 'Theft Saga' residency
"'Jackpot' is a song about risking it all, and winning it all, betting the house, and ending up with two houses, then waking up with nothing at all. The track spirals around a protagonist groomed by gambling ads in childhood, now grown into a man at war with his own circuitry."
"'Theft World' is an ode to the power and pervasiveness of stealing. It's about taking something ugly and using it to make something cute. It's about eating an absurd world and falling in love with it as you digest."
"The concept for the record came about while the band were touring their debut album. Kaser discovered that his identity had been stolen and someone had used his information to make hundreds of purchases, including buying the band's entire discography on Bandcamp. The culprit was a young fan who believed the music contained hidden codes forming a scavenger hunt."
Lip Critic has unveiled 'Jackpot,' a sensory-driven single featuring casino sounds and frontman Bret Kaser's powerful vocals. The track follows 'Legs In A Snare' and depicts a protagonist conditioned by childhood gambling advertisements, now struggling internally. The song explores themes of risk, winning, and ultimate loss. 'Jackpot' appears on the forthcoming album 'Theft World,' conceptualized after Kaser's identity theft by a devoted fan who believed the band's music contained hidden codes. Rather than pursuing legal action, the band recorded the fan's mythology. The album celebrates stealing and transforming ugliness into beauty. Lip Critic will perform a New York residency called 'Theft Saga' with shows in March and April.
