Kim Gordon announces new album 'PLAY ME,' shares "NOT TODAY"
""We wanted the songs to be short," Gordon says. "We wanted to do it really fast. It's more focused, and maybe more confident. I always kind of work off of rhythms, and I knew I wanted it to be even more beat-oriented than the last one. Justin really gets my voice and my lyrics and he understands how I work-that came forth even more on this record.""
""I started singing in a way I hadn't sung in a long time," she says. "This other voice came out.""
Kim Gordon will release PLAY ME on March 13 via Matador Records. The album was produced by Justin Raisen, continuing their collaboration from 2024's The Collective while remaining a distinct project rather than a sequel. Recordings emphasize short, quickly made songs with a more focused, confident sound and stronger beat orientation. The creative approach relied on rhythms and a more melody-forward conception. The lead single, "NOT TODAY," is atmospheric, driving, and centered on melody, featuring a vocal approach that revealed a different voice. The video for "NOT TODAY" was directed by Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The album tracklist accompanies the release.
