"I am honored to join the Trump Kennedy Center at such a pivotal moment for the performing arts,"
"I look forward to the extraordinary creative possibilities ahead - championing our artists and partners to deliver meaningful experiences at America's cultural center."
"Symphony No. 15 is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and the values of the Kennedy Center today are in direct conflict with the message of the Symphony. Therefore, I feel an obligation to withdraw this Symphony premiere from the Kennedy Center under its current leadership."
Kevin Couch was announced as Head of Artistic Programming at the Kennedy Center on January 16. He said he was honored to join the Trump Kennedy Center at a pivotal moment for the performing arts and looked forward to championing artists and delivering meaningful experiences. Couch resigned yesterday evening after just 12 days without offering an explanation. During his brief tenure, Philip Glass withdrew the planned premiere of Symphony No. 15, citing a conflict between the center's values and the symphony's message. The center's vice president of public relations rejected politicizing the arts. Opera soprano Renée Fleming also pulled out of two scheduled performances, while a Brett Ratner documentary premiere is expected to proceed.
