"It was about getting a clearer sound in a more controlled environment, but using the features of the studio to be creative in a completely different way. Tzur explained the decision to record at the Oxford studio instead of returning to the Indian fort location, emphasizing how the new setting provided both technical advantages and fresh creative possibilities for the collaborative project."
"I would argue that the government is more likely to use a boycott and say, 'Everyone hates us-we should do exactly what we want.' Which is far more dangerous. Greenwood expressed his disagreement with Radiohead bandmate Thom Yorke's position on performing in Israel, suggesting that boycotts could have counterproductive political consequences."
Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, and the Rajasthan Express are releasing Ranjha, their first album together since 2015's Junun. The new record was recorded at an Oxford studio where Greenwood also works with Thom Yorke and drummer Tom Skinner as The Smile. This represents a shift from their previous recording location at a 15th-century Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur, India. The change was intentional, allowing the trio to achieve clearer sound in a controlled environment while maintaining creative experimentation. An eight-minute video for the title track and lead single has been released.
