The Tiberi Tapes, live John Coltrane recordings captured between 1961 and 1965 by saxophonist Frank Tiberi, will be released on Impulse! as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18, with a wider release in September to coincide with Coltrane's 100th birthday. Impulse! released a new video for "Acknowledgement" directed by Kamasi Washington and AG Rojas that recreates Van Gelder Studios on the day A Love Supreme was recorded. "Coltrane 100" programming includes reissues of Ascension, Africa/Brass, and Impressions; a 1957–58 best-of compilation; a Devon Cooper-curated sound installation at Cooper Hewitt; a September 23 Hollywood Bowl orchestral show; and public openings of Coltrane homes in Dix Hills and Philadelphia.
"Recorded at jazz clubs in New York and Philadelphia between 1961 and 1965 by saxophonist Frank Tiberi, the Tiberi Tapes have long been relegated to a private collection. But as part of a year-long celebration of Coltrane's 100th birthday in September, the set will land on Impulse! as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18, ahead of a wider release this September."
"Directed by Kamasi Washington and Mitski collaborator AG Rojas, it features a faithful recreation of New Jersey's Van Gelder Studios on the day A Love Supreme was recorded there. Check out the video below. The "Coltrane 100" programming will also include reissues of classics like Ascension, Africa/Brass and Impressions; a new best-of compilation highlighting his 1957 and 1958 sessions; and a sound installation overseen by hi-fi specialist Devon Cooper at New York's Cooper Hewitt."
