In Defense of the Genre: Best Punk & Emo Songs of February
"Dear faithful readers of In Defense of the Genre, it's Andrew here letting you know that this column is actually about to go on a short break as I'll be taking some time away from BrooklynVegan to help welcome my first baby into the world. The rest of the BV team will help keep my weekly album reviews column Notable Releases and our BV Weekly podcast alive in my absence, and I'll be back in full force before you know it."
"Before I go, I've got a list of 10 songs from in and around the world of punk released in February, and for whatever reason, this month's list leans pretty heavily on trusted favorites. Maybe I was seeking some familiarity as I approach this major crossroads in my life, or maybe the vets just really delivered this month."
"Org Music has been doing these reissues, and each album also comes out as a limited Blue Note-inspired "Punk Note" edition with new liner notes by yours truly and new artwork. Pick up limited variants in the BV shop."
Andrew, the columnist for In Defense of the Genre on BrooklynVegan, announces a temporary hiatus from writing to welcome his first baby. The BrooklynVegan team will continue maintaining his Notable Releases album reviews column and BV Weekly podcast during his absence. Before departing, Andrew curates a list of ten punk songs released in February, noting the selection leans toward established artists and trusted favorites. The column also highlights upcoming reunions and anniversary tours from bands including Circa Survive, Carry On, The Rival Mob, Jimmy Eat World, and The Hotelier. Additionally, the Descendents' reissue campaign continues with special Punk Note editions featuring new liner notes and artwork. Andrew's debut book, Emo Revival, will be released later in the year through Clash Books.
