"Despite the fact that she was wearing a helmet, Amy was knocked unconscious for 10 minutes. It left her with memory loss and also caused a cyst in her throat that she hadn't known about to go into "hypergrowth," she says. The singer, who will perform at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast next month and whose hits include Simple Things, Takes A Little Time and Lucky One, later had five-hour surgery to have the cyst removed, during which doctors cut open her throat."
""I had a head injury after the fall, I had a brain bleed and so I had four months of quiet with no exposure to screens," Amy tells me. "And I needed some subsequent surgery to fix things that were hurt. I needed two months just to let my brain rest. To be put under for surgery is not good for your brain anyway. There is so much of that time I don't remember."
Amy Grant, 65, fell off her bike after hitting a pothole near her Nashville home and was knocked unconscious for ten minutes despite wearing a helmet. The crash caused memory loss and triggered hypergrowth of a previously unknown throat cyst, which required five-hour surgery with doctors cutting open her throat, forcing her to relearn singing. The fall produced a head injury and brain bleed, resulting in four months of quiet without screen exposure and further surgeries, plus two months of brain rest. Recovery included therapy, personality changes, and efforts to reconcile current abilities with her pre-injury self.
