I feel as though I've been in chains': the bittersweet life of lovers rock legend Mari' Pierre
Briefly

Marie Pierre, a British reggae singer, topped the UK reggae charts in 1978 with 'Walk Away' but has not released another album in 46 years. Despite her critically acclaimed debut album, 'Love Affair', and successful backing roles with major artists, her career has been marred by personal and professional challenges. Despite her rich musical heritage and guidance from reggae pioneer Dennis Bovell, she feels her ambitions have been hindered, stating she has felt 'in chains', longing for the opportunity to realize her full potential in music.
In the 46 years since, Pierre has never released another album, despite her 1979 debut album Love Affair remaining one of Trojan's best-selling albums well into the 1980s.
Her quite strict but lovingly strict father had been a well-known musician and tap dancer under the stage name Little George. Pierre's career started without his knowledge.
Bovell became an important figure in Pierre's life: a musical teacher who was like a big brother, guiding her through the complexities of the music industry.
