"We began touring, and then it kind of hasn't stopped since,"
"That was about two and a half years ago... towards the end of last year, we did about four months, 47 shows all around Europe."
"We had to just go 'ham' in the studio for six days a week. It's pretty hardcore,"
"All the songs we've written, they feel like they're still within the same world, but just through different filters sometimes,"
Maruja is a Manchester-born quartet comprising Harry Wilkinson, Matt Buonaccorsi, Joe Carroll and Jacob Hayes. The group released its debut album, Pain to Power, on Friday. The band previously released three EPs: Knocknarea (2023), Connla's Well (2024) and Tir na nÓg (2025). Each project incorporates elements of post-punk, jazz rock and art rock. Extensive touring has been central to the band's development, including a four-month European run of 47 shows. The core album ideas were written and recorded over January and February during intensive six-day-a-week studio sessions. Several tracks grew from jams; some were quick, others evolved over years.
