"HBCU communities have always led the way in celebrating Black excellence in all walks of life, and in particular, the music, legacy, and cultural influence of Michael Jackson. Renowned for their interpretation, arrangement, and performance skill, these bands showcase their powerful performances rooted in culture, tradition, and pride in every performance."
"For Michael's fans everywhere, his legacy of performance and artistry is enduring. That legacy lives powerfully within HBCU communities, where music, movement, and excellence have long been expressions of culture, pride, and identity. This initiative is deeply personal to me - I grew up listening to these bands, who represent Black excellence, community, and creativity."
Lionsgate organized "Michael Celebrates: Legacy, Artistry, Culture" as a Black History Month initiative featuring performances by Florida A&M University's The Marching 100, Jackson State University's The Sonic Boom of the South, and Southern University's The Human Jukebox. Each band performed their own interpretation of "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" across three days on social media. The event recognized the deep connection between HBCU communities and Michael Jackson's musical and cultural legacy. HBCU bands are renowned for their interpretation, arrangement, and performance skills rooted in culture, tradition, and pride. The initiative celebrates how these communities continue to advance Jackson's legacy through music, movement, and expressions of Black excellence and identity.
