Fugazi Unearth Shelved Steve Albini Sessions for New Charity Album
"Fugazi have paid tribute to the late Steve Albini by releasing the scrapped sessions they recorded at his Electrical Audio studio in 1992. Albini had engineered and mixed the session, but he and the band came to the conclusion that the recordings had fallen short. Fugazi wound up rerecording the songs with Ted Niceley for 1993's In on the Kill Taker."
"Dischord announced the original sessions' release today, saying proceeds would go to Letters Charity, which Albini and his wife, Heather Whinna, founded to help Chicago families living in poverty."
Fugazi has released scrapped recording sessions from 1992 that were engineered and mixed by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio. The band and Albini determined the recordings were unsatisfactory and chose not to release them at the time. Fugazi subsequently rerecorded the songs with Ted Niceley for their 1993 album In on the Kill Taker. Dischord Records announced the original sessions' release as a tribute to Albini following his death. All proceeds from the release will support Letters Charity, a foundation established by Albini and his wife Heather Whinna to assist Chicago families experiencing poverty.
