Fruit Bats announce new LP 'The Landfill' & tour, share title track
"Johnson describes the new album as having 'full swashbuckling band vibes, laser beams aimed at your heart as usual, all my lyrical preoccupations distilled further down into the heart cavity.'"
"The video for the title track references 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' and explores the idea of a man at a crossroads haunted by a mysterious shape."
"Johnson notes that Fruit Bats have had a strange journey as a cult band, becoming bigger in North America while remaining obscure in Europe."
"The video concept, while silly and obscure, still aligns with the song's themes of memory, legacy, and following uncertain paths."
Eric D. Johnson will release a new Fruit Bats album titled The Landfill on June 12 through Merge. This album follows last year's Baby Man. The first single is the title track, accompanied by a video directed by Adam Willis. Johnson describes the video as a collaboration that explores themes of memory and legacy. Fruit Bats will also embark on a North American tour with shows scheduled for June, July, September, October, and November, including a performance at Webster Hall in NYC on November 11.
