Fred Durst Throws Hat in Ring to Sing on New Van Halen Album: "Let's Go, I'm Ready"
"Alex Van Halen is currently looking for a vocalist to sing on an upcoming album featuring unfinished Van Halen songs that the late Eddie Van Halen was working on before his passing. One contender has already emerged in the form of Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst. As previously reported, Alex is working with Toto's Steve Lukather to complete the album that features drumming from Alex, guitar playing from Eddie, and bass playing by Wolfgang Van Halen."
"They had hoped to get Bad Company's Paul Rodgers to sing on the effort, but he wasn't able to do it. Alex said of the singer search, "Music is not so much about music as it is about people having a shared experience. I'm 72. We gotta find somebody in that age group who was exposed to the same musical experience that we have. Otherwise, it doesn't have the depth.""
Alex Van Halen is searching for a vocalist to sing on an album built from unfinished Van Halen songs Eddie Van Halen was working on before his death. Steve Lukather is collaborating with Alex to finish the recordings, which feature drumming from Alex, guitar parts from Eddie, and bass by Wolfgang. Paul Rodgers was approached but couldn't participate. Fred Durst publicly expressed interest after seeing Alex's comment about needing a singer from a similar age and musical background. Limp Bizkit will play several 2026 U.S. festivals while Durst campaigns for the vocal role.
