"'They told my wife she may never see me again,' said King, who underwent three brain surgeries and spent three weeks in a coma. '[They said] if I did in fact survive, I would probably be a vegetable for the rest of my life. But I'm a talking vegetable!'"
"'It's a great thing to be able to do, to pick up a guitar and play and even create something new from that experience,' King said. 'I'm getting excited about getting into a room again with my darling wife and my bandmates and working together again.'"
Dave King suffered a hemorrhage in January after fainting on a staircase and fracturing his skull. His wife and bandmate Bridget Regan called an ambulance that transported him from Wexford to Dublin due to the severity of the injury. Medical staff performed three brain surgeries and kept him in a coma for three weeks, warning his wife he might not survive or could be left permanently impaired. Doctors later called his recovery a miracle. King has begun writing new songs and aims to return to the stage on Flogging Molly's Salty Dog Cruise in October 2026, with possible Warped Tour plans as well.
