"Ed Sheeran stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night to play "Drive," his contribution to the soundtrack for F1 The Movie, and he brought instrumentalists Dave Grohl, Pino Palladino, John Mayer, Blake Slatkin, and Rami Jaffee along for the performance. Reprising their roles from the original recording - Grohl on drums, Mayer and Slatkin on guitar, Palladino on bass, and fellow Foo Fighter Jaffee on keys - along with two backing vocalists, the group brought "Drive" to life with an electric, shred-heavy rendition."
"Sheeran and co.'s performance arrived as Kimmel has been spotlighting original music from last year's biggest films. On Tuesday night, Kimmel hosted Raphael Saadiq, Miles Caton, and Ludwig Göransson to perform "I Lied to You" from Sinners, and last week, EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna (the singing voices of HUNTR/X) debuted a new "Glowin'" rendition of "Golden" from KPop Demon Hunters. All three tracks - including "Drive" - made this year's shortlist for the Academy Award for Best Original Song."
Ed Sheeran performed "Drive" on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Dave Grohl, Pino Palladino, John Mayer, Blake Slatkin, and Rami Jaffee. The group reprised their original recording roles: Grohl on drums, Mayer and Slatkin on guitar, Palladino on bass, and Jaffee on keys, with two backing vocalists. The band delivered an electric, shred-heavy take featuring a notable Grohl drum fill and a central bluesy guitar riff played by Mayer, Slatkin, and Sheeran. Palladino grooved enthusiastically in the corner. "Drive" joined two other film songs on the Academy Award shortlist for Best Original Song. Sheeran will launch the LOOP Tour on June 13, 2026. Grohl and Jaffee also performed with Foo Fighters at a benefit and marked Grohl's 57th birthday.
