"Blue Morpho was born from one of 'the most challenging periods of his life,' when he entered a deep depression in late 2020. O'Brien credits the work of Wim Hof—a motivational speaker and athlete known for his use of cold exposure to treat a host of mental ailments and diseases, including multiple sclerosis and cancer—of helping the guitarist return to normalcy."
"In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, O'Brien said he's still figuring out how to translate Blue Morpho to the stage. In the meantime, he teased more Radiohead live dates: 'What we're going to do is, every year we're going to do a different continent, and we're going to do 20 shows each year. No more, no less.'"
Ed O'Brien, guitarist from Radiohead, has announced Blue Morpho, his first album on Transgressive Records and follow-up to his 2020 solo debut. Produced by Paul Epworth and featuring contributions from Shabaka Hutchings and composer Tõnu Kõrvits, the album releases May 22 alongside a short film titled Blue Morpho: The Three Act Play. O'Brien created the album during one of the most challenging periods of his life, experiencing deep depression in late 2020. He credits Wim Hof, a motivational speaker and athlete known for cold exposure therapy, with helping him recover. O'Brien is currently determining how to perform the album live while also teasing future Radiohead tour plans, stating the band will perform 20 shows annually on different continents.
