Durand Jones & The Indications Live in San Jose - Flowers Tour
"The origin story for modern soul heavyweights Durand Jones & the Indications emerged out of what can be considered divine timing. The group's genesis took shape when guitarist Blake Rhein, then a recording engineer for the ensemble's rehearsals, invited Jones over to dig through vinyl records. A fleeting invitation that set forth a decade of musical collaboration."
"On the first record... we did the whole thing in Aaron's basement, working with a very limited set of resources, which definitely gave that record a distinct sound. These meetups organically evolved into weekly basement jams at drummer Aaron Frazer's place. With very minimal personnel, they cut their self-titled debut in 2016 on a four-track tape machine."
Durand Jones & The Indications formed in Bloomington, Indiana around 2012 when Durand Jones, a classical saxophone student at Indiana University, joined the Soul Revue group as a vocalist. Guitarist Blake Rhein, working as a recording engineer, invited Jones to explore vinyl records together, sparking a decade-long collaboration. Weekly basement jam sessions at drummer Aaron Frazer's residence led to their self-titled debut in 2016, recorded on a four-track tape machine in a basement with minimal resources. Colemine Records released the album, which gained traction through independent record shops and live performances. By 2019, their sound expanded with orchestral elements including strings and harp. Their fourth album, Flowers, released last summer, combines soul, gospel, lowrider oldies, and disco influences into accessible songs about courtship and longing. The band is currently touring in support of this album.
