Dua Lipa and Ben Gibbard Duet Death Cab's "I Will Follow You Into the Dark"
"It came about purely because I had done a song for the American Country Music Awards with Chris Stapleton, and it was so much fun that I proposed it to the band and to the team: How fun would it be if every night we do a different song? And everyone was like, well that's quite ambitious."
"It's been so exciting to exercise those muscles and being able to do so many different genres and songs and to collaborate with so many incredible artists and legends, It feels like we've done years of bonding learning these songs so quickly."
Dua Lipa ended the US leg of the Radical Optimism Tour at Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena with a duet alongside Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, performing 'I Will Follow You Into the Dark' with matched vocals and acoustic guitar. The previous night featured Brandi Carlile joining for 'The Story.' The nightly local-cover concept originated after a collaboration at the American Country Music Awards and the decision to perform a different song each night. The covers have pushed the band across genres, strengthened touring camaraderie, and included tributes to artists from Sinead O'Connor to Green Day. The tour resumes in Latin America in November.
