Diane Martel died at age 63 in New York after a long battle with breast cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. Martel directed her first music video for Onyx's "Throw Ya Gunz" in 1992 and built a career primarily in the hip-hop world with videos for Method Man, Gang Starr, and others, while also directing many Mariah Carey videos. She continued working through the 2000s and 2010s with artists including Clipse, Jennifer Lopez, the Killers, Britney Spears, Ne-Yo, Beyoncé, and Alicia Keys. Her 2013 videos for Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" generated major public attention.
