"Jan. 10th. The pain didn't vanish.. It left in its place a loving permanent mark. #BowieForever."
"This was a man who was facing his own mortality. The Blackstar symbol [★], rather than writing 'Blackstar,' has as a sort of finality, a darkness, a simplicity, which is a representation of the music... The idea of mortality is in there, and of course the idea of a black hole sucking in everything, the Big Bang, the start of the universe, if there is an end of the universe. These are things that relate to mortality."
Iman commemorated the tenth anniversary of David Bowie's passing by getting a tattoo of the Blackstar (★) artwork from his final album. She posted a video on Instagram of the tattooing and captioned it, 'Jan. 10th. The pain didn't vanish.. It left in its place a loving permanent mark. #BowieForever.' Jonathan Barnbrook, designer of the Blackstar artwork, explained that the symbol conveys finality, darkness, and simplicity as a representation of the music. Barnbrook linked the symbol to themes of mortality, comparing it to a black hole, the Big Bang, and the possible end or start of the universe.
