David Bowie photos and camera to go on display next month
"Coming to auction for the first time, the sale will also feature the Hasselblad camera Duffy used to shoot Bowie for Aladdin Sane (1973) and Scary Monsters (1980), as well as the only two surviving contact sheets for Aladdin Sane. Additionally, the sale will include the stool on which Bowie sat during the Aladdin Sane shoot. For nearly four decades following the April 1973 release of Aladdin Sane, the iconic eyes-closed image remained the only widely seen frame from the shoot."
"All the items that will be on display come directly from the Duffy Archive, established and managed by Duffy's son, Chris Duffy. The Duffy Archive will be on view in a free exhibition at Bonhams New Bond Street from Wednesday 22nd October to 5th November. Open 10am to 5pm except where stated: Wed 22 Oct 2025 Thur 23 Oct 2025 Fri 24 Oct 2025 Sat 25th Oct - CLOSED Sun 26th Oct - CLOSED Mon 27 Oct 2025"
A free exhibition of items from the Duffy Archive will be held at Bonhams New Bond Street from 22 October to 5 November 2025 with varied opening hours and some closed dates. The display and upcoming auction present original David Bowie imagery and objects, including the Aladdin Sane inside-cover dye transfer print, the Hasselblad 500C used by Brian Duffy, the only two surviving Aladdin Sane contact sheets, the stool used in the shoot, and Scary Monsters contact sheets and prints. The Duffy Archive is managed by Chris Duffy. An eyes-open alternate Aladdin Sane image was authorised for use in 2010 on Kevin Cann's book cover.
