![Dave Mustaine Advises Yungblud to "Take a Break or Find Something Else [Musically]"](https://consequence.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Dave-Mustaine-Yungblud.jpg)
"Mustaine was asked by if he came across any of Yungblud's work, to which he bluntly answered, "No." When he was told that Yungblud won over Ozzy Osbourne prior to the metal icon's passing, and collaborated with the likes of Aerosmith and the Smashing Pumpkins in recent months, while also being touted as a savior of rock music, Mustaine issued some advice for the young singer."
""When you say somebody is working with everybody, that to me means they've reached a point where they need to either take a break, or find something else [to separate them from the pack]," warned the thrash-metal veteran. "Because you run the risk of your song sounding like the last person's song, which then sounds like the last person's song." The interviewer then quipped, "So we shouldn't expect a collaboration with you and Yungblud any time soon...," with Mustaine replying, "As far as me knowing any young bands or artists that I wanna work with? If I was going to work with anybody right now, I'd keep working with Megadeth.""
Dave Mustaine said he had not heard Yungblud's work and reacted after being told about Yungblud's high-profile collaborations and praise. Mustaine warned that working with many artists can signal a need to take a break or find a distinct musical direction to avoid sounding like others. He cautioned that repeated collaborations risk songs resembling previous collaborators' music. Mustaine stated he would continue working with Megadeth rather than teaming with young artists. Yungblud won a Grammy for Best Rock Performance for a live rendition of Black Sabbath's "Changes" and sold out a North American tour. Megadeth will launch a farewell tour and support Iron Maiden in 2026.
