Daniel O'Donnell takes two-year sabbatical: 'I'm officially on a break'
""After more than 40 years as a touring singer I've finally taken a sabbatical," Daniel told the Irish Independent."
""For the most part my time will be my own and we'll be spending it with the family at home and abroad as well as enjoying some travel for holidays," he continued. "Tenerife has been a home from home for many decades and we intend to spend time there as well as in Donegal. "And with family in Australia now there are also plans for an extended trip Down Under in 2027. "But just to reiterate what I've said in the past, this is not a retirement announcement. As Arnie says, I'll be back.""
""I am looking forward to the break. I'm very happy now where I am in my life," he continued. "And I'll never come back to touring again the way I did. When I do come back it will be at my own pace and I won't be doing as many shows again as I did in the past.""
The 63-year-old singer will take a planned two-year sabbatical, finishing this phase with a concert on December 21 at St Mary's Church in Kincasslagh to raise parish funds. He will largely be on break while still attending select events like the Gertrude Byrne Cruise, Opry le Daniel TG4 series, Relay for Life and the Mary From Dungloe Festival. Time will be spent with family at home and abroad, with extended stays in Donegal and Tenerife and a planned trip to Australia in 2027. He emphasizes this is not retirement and intends to tour again at a reduced, self-paced schedule.
