"Just when you think you've checked something big off your bucket list, the universe tosses in a few more. My current earworm is that old song, "There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza." I don't know who Liza is and the lyrics are not supposed to be, "There's a hole in my bucket list." But my bucket appears to be a sieve."
"This was not a casual jaunt to the Big Apple. It was a weekend that a small band of us had been quietly, and sometimes loudly, preparing for over two years. OK, make that 25. The Sing for the Cure company outside of Lincoln Center In 2023, I innocently sent a short text to my friend Gary Rifkin, asking whether he thought there might be interest in commemorating the 25th anniversary of a huge work we had commissioned in 2000."
"The anticipation? Epic. The result? Epicer! [sic] But what unfolded that weekend far exceeded even our wildest imaginings. We gathered to honor the 25th anniversary of the world premiere of Sing for the Cure, the choral symphony about breast cancer. Its subtitle, "A Proclamation of Hope," has carried thousands of singers and audience members through some of the most difficult seasons of their lives. Since its birth in 2000, it has been performed around the globe, including in San Francisco"
A small group of six original commissioners organized a 25th-anniversary celebration in New York City on the weekend of November 23, 2025, to honor the choral symphony Sing for the Cure. The organizers raised tens of thousands of dollars to provide scholarships and to hire top performers, narrators, and musicians. The event reunited five original commissioners and drew wide emotional response from singers and audiences. Sing for the Cure, subtitled "A Proclamation of Hope," has been performed globally since its 2000 premiere and has supported thousands through breast cancer by offering communal mourning, resilience, and uplift.
