In Lincoln Hall, Twin Court is innovatively merging modern electric guitar with traditional Indonesian Gamelan, creating a unique musical experience. The band, comprised of current and former Cornell Gamelan Ensemble members, has received heartfelt feedback from audiences, highlighting the emotional impact of their music. Established in 2021, they explored how these diverse musical elements could coexist. Band member Jack Neiberg shared that Gamelan enhances rhythm understanding, providing new musical perspectives. Their latest song, "Broken Strands," exemplifies this fusion, combining deeply resonant percussion with contemporary influences to create an evocative sound.
"Multiple people in the audience have cried by the end of our last couple shows and have come up to thank us afterward. It makes me very emotional to see that our art can do that for people."
"The instruments are incredibly resonant because it's mostly metal percussion. The timbre is really striking."
"Joining the Cornell Gamelan Ensemble exposed me to new ways of thinking about interlocking rhythms. Gamelan opened my eyes to musical possibilities in a way that felt oddly compatible with the Western background I came in with."
