She justified her choice by noting Pitt was still an unknown actor at the time. Pitt was left to drive Applegate's mother home and nearly got into a fight at a gas station, making him angry with her. Applegate quickly regretted her decision upon discovering Bach had a long-term girlfriend and a one-year-old child. Years later, Pitt and Applegate reconciled, with Pitt eventually becoming a major star while Bach remained relatively unchanged.
