"I recorded a little demo, just me singing with the Rhodes [keyboard], and sent it to [co-founder] Jay Brown at Roc Nation. I've been told this, I don't know if it's true, but he played it for Jay-Z and Jay-Z loved it. And it got to [NFL Commissioner Roger] Goodell and they all said that I could do it."
"I mean, she grew up one town over from me in New Jersey, and my parents know her parents. Her dad has been best friends with my dad since the third grade, so it's kind of like I'm just gaining another family right away, even before the wedding. And they've also known me before the fame, before everything, so I can't think of a better situation, quite frankly."
Charlie Puth will perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Santa Clara, California, becoming the first New Jersey native to sing the anthem at the game since Whitney Houston in 1991. Puth described the anthem as "the hardest song ever written" and recorded a demo of himself singing with a Rhodes keyboard that was passed within Roc Nation and reportedly reached NFL approval. Puth and his wife, Brooke Sansone, are expecting a child. Sansone and Puth are childhood friends whose families have long been connected. Sansone holds a marketing degree from the College of Charleston and works in digital marketing and PR in New York City. The couple has been together since 2022 and appeared together at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City in September.
