"We all came from, I mean, pretty humble beginnings. At a certain point you realize, like, hey, you know, we're selling tickets, we're doing well, the ship's not sinking. What can we do to make people's lives better?"
"I think instinctively you just want to help. I mean, we all depend on each other - you know, if you really want to break it down, then you go, humans are herd animals and really thrive, you know, the flock does better when everybody is doing well."
"We get to go make some people smile out there, deliver the goods by playing songs that saved us in our lives."
Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation has donated more than $10 million to workforce education and supported roughly 9,000 Metallica Scholars through grants to trade schools and community colleges. The foundation also provides hunger relief, disaster relief for California wildfires, and funds Helping Hands benefit shows. Each Metallica member participated alongside a beneficiary, Carmen DeBerry, who became a commercial delivery driver after attending trade school funded by the foundation. The grants primarily support workforce and vocational training targeted at blue-collar careers. The band combines performances with fundraising to deliver aid and create scholarship opportunities that strengthen communities.
