Cafe Tacvba asks its former labels to remove its music from Spotify, citing 'band ethics'

Café Tacvba delivered letters to Universal Music Mexico and Warner Music Mexico requesting removal of the band's catalog from Spotify, citing contradictions with artistic vision and band ethics. Singer Rubén Albarrán accused Spotify of links to weapons investment, running ads for ICE, and using artificial intelligence in ways detrimental to musicians. Albarrán invited fans to listen on other platforms or boycott Spotify and called for a more just world where music retains value and meaning. Spotify responded that it does not fund war, noted Helsing is a separate company supplying defense tech to Ukraine, said no ICE ads currently run on the platform and that the referenced ads were part of a U.S. government recruitment campaign, and stated that the platform focuses on protecting human artists from clones and fraud.
