The lead singer and guitarist, Brittany Howard, needed to set out on a solo adventure, to write more personal songs than her responsibilities as a front person would allow. A brief reunion performance during a benefit previewed a fuller return. The band launched an official reunion tour a decade after Sound & Color, released the single "Another Life," and announced a forthcoming LP described as more audacious and freewheeling.
