"Bright Eyes projected a defiant political statement behind them, calling for the abolishment of ICE and giving a lesson on the history of slavery and immigration. “ICE is now Trump's private paramilitary,” the message read in part. “It is now the most well-funded law enforcement agency in American history. Its officers routinely terrorize our friends and neighbors, disappearing innocent people, clad in masks, driving unmarked cars, murdering its own citizens.”"
"It continued, “ICE should be abolished immediately and their officers should be prosecuted for their crimes. The arc of the moral universe bends towards justice. Trans rights are human rights... America is indeed beautiful when we make it the real home of the brave.”"
"Get Bright Eyes Tickets Here Tuesday marked the first time Bright Eyes had played many of the songs from Digital Ash in two decades or more, including “Time Code,” “Devil in the Details,” “Ship in a Bottle,” “Light Pollution,” and “Theme from Pinata.”"
"Playing at Morrison's Red Rocks, Conor Oberst and co. first played the folk-indebted I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning in its entirety before ceding the stage to indie vet Ben Kweller. Following his set, they returned to perform the more electronic Digital Ash in a Digital Urn from front to back."
Bright Eyes opened a run of three anniversary shows at Morrison’s Red Rocks by performing the entirety of “I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning,” then handed the stage to indie artist Ben Kweller. After Kweller’s set, the band returned to play “Digital Ash in a Digital Urn” from start to finish. Many songs from “Digital Ash” had not been played live in two decades or more, including “Time Code,” “Devil in the Details,” “Ship in a Bottle,” “Light Pollution,” and “Theme from Pinata.” During the encore, an instrumental “America the Beautiful” accompanied a projected political message calling for the abolishment of ICE and discussing slavery and immigration history. The night ended with “Lover I Don’t Have to Love,” “Make a Plan to Love Me,” and a final performance with Kweller on “Let’s Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to Be Loved).”
