Brent Hinds died on August 20 at age 51 after his Harley-Davidson was struck in downtown Atlanta when a BMW SUV reportedly failed to yield while turning left. Medical professionals pronounced Hinds dead at the scene and an investigation is ongoing. The Atlanta-based band said they were heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of a creative force with whom they shared many triumphs and milestones. Hinds and Mastodon "mutually parted ways" in March 2025 after 25 years together, and Hinds later claimed he had been kicked out and criticized his former bandmates.
