Blurring the lines: FearNoMusic's "Looking Inward, Spacing Out" * Oregon ArtsWatch
"On February 20, Portland's innovative new music ensemble FearNoMusic will perform Looking Inward, Spacing Out in the Performing Arts Building at Reed College. At this performance they make use of the three-story interior with a collection of pieces for spatial ensembles, where the musicians spread out around the audience. Composers featured on the program include Henry Brant, Nancy Ives, Jukka Tiensuu, Pauline Oliveros and Knut Nystedt."
"The PAB was designed by New-York based firm Fischer Dachs Associates and Portland-based Opsis. The latter also designed the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton. The exterior of the PAB fits in with the rest of Reed's largely collegiate gothic architectural style - lots of red brick, arches, tan stone and ornate stonework and gargoyles. However the spacious interior is contemporary in style, with concrete walkways overlooking lower floors allowing plentiful room to meander."

The centerpiece is Henry Brant’s Mass in Gregorian Chant, featuring twenty flutists of all ages.
