Billy Corgan says The Smashing Pumpkins would “absolutely” love to play The Sphere, though they have not been asked yet. He imagines the venue approaching the band with a proposal to perform all of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness using a Sphere production. He believes building the show around the album would allow the band to recast the songs and music in a different dynamic. In the meantime, the band is taking Mellon Collie back on the road for “The Rats in a Cage Tour,” featuring songs from the album plus a second set of fan favorites across 27 North American cities. The Sphere is preparing for Metallica’s residency and has reportedly discussed potential shows with Tool.
"“It’s a no-doubter for us. We just haven’t been asked yet,” Corgan responded when asked of his interest in playing the Las Vegas venue during a recent interview on KROQ. “See, if the Sphere came to us and said, 'We'd love you to do all o f Mellon Collie with that production.' Now, that makes sense to me to do something like that, to build the show around the album.... Then you have a chance to recast the songs and the music in a different dynamic.”"
"For now, Corgan is content taking Mellon Collie back on the road for Smashing Pumpkins' “The Rats in a Cage Tour,” which will feature songs from the landmark album alongside a second set of fan favorites across 27 North American cities."
"Sphere, meanwhile, will soon welcome Metallica for a lengthy residency, and also reportedly has been in discussions with Tool about a potential run of shows."
